The MENA NWC Assembly of Governing Members (AGM) met for the first time in November 2015 following the MENA NWC Congress in Muscat, Oman.

Governing Members, directors of the participating centers in MENA NWC, have decision-making responsibilities and play an advisory role to the Board of Directors and the NWC Directorate.

Of the 24 member Centers, representatives from 17 centers attended the November meeting along with the MENA NWC Board of Directors.

The meeting was held to update the Centers Directors on Network activities and review the NWC 2016 work plan, confirm the role of the AGM, determine criteria for Network membership for water centers and affiliates, set membership fees, endorse the Board of Directors, and agree on a process for election of future Directors.

During the one-day meeting, the AGM agreed to strengthen collective efforts among the Centers to enhance the preparation of high-quality regional research and development proposals. Several members of AGM highlighted the need to keep in touch with selected donors to gauge their interest in supporting important dimensions of the sector such as climate change, gender, and water security.

The members recommended that the Directorate initiate a short survey to learn more about AGM members’ views regarding a number of issues such as updating the rules and regulations of governing membership and fees, the strategic business planning process, and the structure and composition of the Board of Directors.

The meeting concluded with an endorsement of the current Board of Directors to serve the remaining period of USAID financing through March 31, 2016.
