Using Reflectance Sensing in Precision Irrigation Management and Scheduling Under Arid Conditions
While reflectance sensing technology has been widely used for drought monitoring in several regions around the world, it has not been used for daily irrigation management and scheduling in the arid Middle East region. Canopy reflectance is a very accurate and direct indices of water statute in plants compared to traditional soil humidity sensing or climate monitoring currently used for irrigation scheduling. This research project, implemented by the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA), will produce a new precision irrigation scheduling method using reflectance sensors. The project will also create an irrigation decision support tool for farmers, agricultural extension services and researchers who operate in arid climates.
