The International Institute for Water and Sanitation (IEA) was created by the National Office of Electricity and Water Supply (ONEE) in June 2008. It brings together technical training, previously offered through the Center for Training in Water (CFTE), and a new Research and Development (R&D) department focused on applied research. IEA's mandate is to provide training and capacity building; to develop water and sanitation services, including applied research on promising and appropriate technologies and practices; and to support water operators in sub-Saharan Africa through knowledge exchange within the framework of North-South-South cooperation and public-private partnerships.
