The African Union launched Pan African University (PAU) in 2011 to revitalize higher education and research in Africa. PAU is a network of thematic institutes in the five African regions. The Pan African University Institute of Water and Energy Sciences (including Climate Change) (PAUWES) is one of PAU’s centers for excellence. It is located at the University of Tlemcen in Algeria. PAUWES offers leading academic research and the latest theoretical and hands-on training for graduate students in water, energy, and the challenge of climate change. Students are awarded a joint degree from PAU and the University of Tlemcen.
