Established in 1993, the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology Grand Water Research Institute (GWRI) emphasizes the advancement of water science, engineering, and management tools in Israel, the Middle East, and other water-sensitive regions worldwide. The GWRI focuses on innovative approaches, technologies, and solutions aimed at providing new and sustainable ways to overcome water scarcity and preserve the quality and quantity of water resources at the lowest possible cost while saving energy and considering environmental and ecological impacts.

The GWRI is committed to leading water research in Israel, to training high-quality water engineers and young researchers, and to maintaining good working relations with the academic, research, and industrial sectors, locally, regionally (focusing on neighboring countries), and internationally. The GWRI also runs the , which serves as a site for sharing important and relevant  information about water research in Israel and worldwide.
