The University of Jordan, Water, Energy and Environment Center (WEEC)
The Water, Energy and Environment Center (WEEC) at The University of Jordan was established in 2011 through a merger of the Water and Environment Research and Study Center (WERSC) and the Energy Center. WEEC is an independent research unit whose mission is to conduct research and studies leading to improved management of the limited water and energy resources in Jordan in an integrated manner that considers environmental as well as socio-economic conditions. Research activities focus on renewable energy, environmental protection, and water resource management and protection with an aim to support decision makers in developing effective policies.
The Center promotes multidisciplinary research among faculty members from the different university colleges and research centers at the national, regional, and international level. It builds local and regional capacity through its professional training and teaching programs. In a highly successful partnership, WEEC and the German University of Applied Sciences in Cologne grant joint graduate degrees in integrated water resources management. The Center's accredited and certified chemistry and biological laboratories provide a wide range of scientific expertise and services to the private sector.
